One thing that we as shooters have to do is to make sure that we always have our sight picture on point. Although mainstream headlines are consistently inundated with drama, drama, drama, its always good to see gun rights for responsible citizens surge!! The first 5 months of 2017 have resulted in several triumphs for responsible owners of firearms! If we, as responsible gun owners continue to act responsibly, our sights will stay focused.
Recently, New Hampshire and North Dakota both passed legislation that shows that 2nd Amendment rights remain strong! These two states recently became the 11th and 12th states to allow permit-less carry of firearms. In February, those New Hampshire citizens who can legally possess firearms were granted the permission to do so without first having to obtain a carry permit. New Hampshire permit holders also get an extra year before having to renew (the renewal period was increased to 5 years…up from 4). Shortly thereafter (just over a month), North Dakota followed suit and passed similar legislation, allowing permit-less carry (only by legal citizens of course!!!). The triumph in North Dakota came by landslide votes for approval! Several other states are currently undergoing congressional sessions that may prove victorious in the same manner. Gun rights on the surge!!
Georgia (PSA’s home state!!!) and Arkansas both passed legislation making it easier for legal carry in more public places. Each state passed legislation making it legal to carry on college campuses, and Arkansas took it steps further making legal carry acceptable at most government buildings and churches. In Arkansas, these rights did come with one caveat. Permit holders must take 8 hours of certified training and receive an enhanced permit to carry in these newly acceptable places. Since we all know that firearms training is of utmost importance, this obstacle is one that is easily hurdled. Gun rights continue to remain strong!
Responsible gun owners in several states can now rest assured that their 2nd Amendment rights are safe and sound. Safe, legal, responsible firearm ownership has been one of the cornerstones of this great country for centuries and with all of our hard work, gun rights can continue to expand!
