NRA Basics of Personal Protection inside the Home Course Overview:

***PLEASE READ ALL THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BEFORE ATTENDING A CLASS***

This is the NRA Basics of Personal Protection Inside the Home Course. This is a HANDS-ON course that takes roughly 8 hours to complete.

There is a live-fire portion of this course where students can expect to fire around 100 rounds with an NRA Certified Instructor.

This course is available to only law-abiding citizens of the United States of America, as defined by federal, state and local laws. A valid driver’s License (from any State in the U.S.) or a current passport is required to take this course. This is a good course for learning what to do if you encounter an intruder in your home. Some topics include mental preparation, defensive shooting skills, self-defense strategies and legal ramifications.

***Pregnant or nursing women are not allowed to attend this course unless a written authorization is provided from a Medical Doctor.

This course is designed for experienced shooters and to register, you MUST provide ONE or more of the following documents:

  • An NRA Basic Pistol Course certificate OR
  • An NRA Competitive Pistol Shooting Qualification Card OR
  • Copy 4 of a DD-214 with Pistol Qualifications OR
  • NRA First Steps Course Certificate OR

A passing grade on the Pre-Course Assessment Test. This requires you to be able to competently demonstrate certain activities to include:

  • Being able to effectively state and demonstrate the fundamental rules for safe gun handling set by the NRA
  • The proper loading / unloading, cocking and de-cocking procedures
  • The ability to shoot three (3) five shot (5) groups at 15 feet from a supported position, each of which can be covered in a 9” circle
  • Zero a pistol from 15 feet in a supported position
  • The proper way to clean a pistol safely

Failure to successfully complete the Pre-Course Assessment will result in the forfeiture of your deposit due to the time & expenses involved for the NRA Training Counselor/Certified Instructor to conduct the assessment test.

This course will cover the following topics:

  • Basic Defensive Pistol Skills
  • Firearms and the Law (Taught by a POST Certified Law Enforcement Officer)
  • Possession of Firearms in your jurisdiction
  • Ownership of Firearms in your state
  • Use of Deadly Force for personal protection
  • Home Safety Strategies
  • Responding to a Violent Confrontation
  • Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense
  • Sport Shooting Activities
  • Further training opportunities

There is a minimum (non-refundable) deposit of $50.00 due at time of registration that will be applied to the total $225.00 cost of your course. If you have paid the deposit and are unable to attend the course, your deposit will be applied to your next course registration. The remaining balance must be paid prior to attending the course. Once all course fees are paid, there are no refunds.  Your deposit allows us to order your course materials from the NRA to include your Basics of Personal Protection inside the Home Handbook, final examination, targets for qualifying, and other NRA materials.

Also covered in this cost are your course materials, range time, eye protection, ear protection, and up to 100 rounds of .22LR ammunition. Also included is a care package from PSA to you as a thank you for learning with us! We recommend you bring the pistol you have chosen for personal defense, but if not, you may rent one of our guns for $10.00.

Refreshments will be available during the classroom portion of the course. There are no food or drinks allowed on the range.

This entire course will be held onsite at Quickshot Shooting Range 1199 Zonolite road Atlanta, Georgia 30306.

Courses are limited to 4 students per instructor so that we may give you the amount of individual attention necessary to meet the learning objectives. Not only will you be more prepared to handle a life-threatening situation at the end of the class, you will have a NRA Certificate depicting that as well.

This course will take approximately 8 hours to complete. We begin at 11:00 am sharp and there is 4 hours of instruction in the classroom, with short breaks every hour. We spend the remainder of the period on the range, followed by a cleaning session at the very end of the class.
