In the wake of so many polarizing firearm related focusing events, it is imperative that as responsible armed citizens we stay abreast of firearms in the news. Our 2nd amendment rights are consistently under attack, and it is paramount that we remain knowledgeable!! This weeks’ post concentrates solely on firearms updates from the national level….
Sweeping Gun Control Tactics – The history of politicians making sweeping promises they can’t keep is something of a common occurrence. Unfortunately, last week U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren took the empty promises and attempted to make good. Senator Warren released a plan in which she made claims that would reduce so-called “gun violence” by a whopping 80%. A feat that would truly be a promise made good if it were to ever happen!!! By all accounts, the real plan that Senator Warren has designed is aimed at crippling the firearms industry, destabilization of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, and denial of rights to responsible armed American adults through age-based bans. If there was ever a time to ensure that armed citizens exercise their rights to vote, the upcoming election year is it!!!
Politics at work…..or are they? – On Sept. 4, the House Judiciary Committee is slated to consider three firearm-related bills: (1) a ban on magazines with a capacity over 10 rounds, (2) extreme risk protection orders, and (3) a prohibition for people convicted of hate crimes. If that isn’t enough, this session will be followed by a hearing on banning so-called “black guns” (also called “assault weapons”) later in the month. The age old attempt to limit magazine capacity and bans on modern sporting rifles (MSR’s) are cheap attempts to try and veil the unconstitutional restrictions to the legal market for firearm related products that are safely used every day by responsible armed citizens.
Really Peter King? – Amazingly so, U.S. Rep. Peter King recently became the sole Republican to co-sponsor the Assault Weapons Ban Act of 2019. Even more amazing was his reason, stating that “he didn’t believe anyone needed such a rifle.” The ridiculous bill has 203 co-sponsors and the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary promised to hold a hearing on banning modern sporting rifles in late September. As responsible armed citizens, someone should tell Mr. King that we really don’t care for his thoughts about what we need (thanks but no thanks)!! He should also be informed that our 2nd Amendment is included in the Bill of Rights, not Peter King’s Bill of Needs.
