The Bullet Hole Drill….

Shooting is one of the most perishable skills in your tool-kit, so in order to stay sharp and shoot straight you’ve gotta get out and train!!!  Today we wanted to bring to you guys a drill that we love here at PSA!!  Welcome back and we can’t wait to see you on the range!!!!!

If you have limited ammo and/or time, try the Bullet Hole Drill.  In this drill what you want to start with is a blank target.  You don’t need any of those fancy, newfangled targets for this one!!!  At times we just find a clean spot on the cardboard target backer and commence to training!!!  If you need a clean white background, most ranges will sell you a blank piece of paper the size of a standard target for about $0.25-$0.50.  Take aim on any spot on the paper and take a good, effective shot.  Now, what you want to do is to use that hole as your aiming  point and literally attempt to put all of your rounds (3, 5, or 7 shot drills) into the same hole.

Most modern pistols are zeroed to allow you to simply put your front sight (of course with good sight alignment and shooting techniques) onto that hole and all of the subsequent rounds on target should be touching.  If your pistol isn’t zeroed this way you’ll have one hole all by it’s lonesome, and the other rounds on target should be one hole (or at least a very tight touch!).  The reason we do this at close range (like 3 yards), is to be able to focus back on the gun and not the target.  As you see your marksmanship improving you can move back to longer distances.  If you start to see a spread, slow down, move back in a little, and put more focus on the basics of effective pistol shooting.

Remember guys…there are an infinite amount of focal planes between your eye and the target.  It’s not necessary to have an intent focus on the target…..your focus needs to remain on the sights that are affixed to the gun.

***  If you are unfamiliar with firearms and/or their accessories, and want to learn more, PSA strongly suggests that you find, enroll, and attend a comprehensive and reputable firearms safety course. Firearms safety is all of OUR responsibility.

We want to thank you for taking out the time to stop by our lane at the shooting range!!  We hope that you enjoyed your stay and hope that you stop back by early and often to catch up on all PSA updates!  We truly hope that we were able to hit the target, and if you ever have any questions please don’t hesitate to shoot them our way!!  We look forward to shooting the breeze with you soon again!!

And as always….remember to watch your six and stay low!!!
