Firearms in the news….

Keeping you guys informed with firearms news is one of the most enjoyable parts of owning PSA!!  Over the past week or so, we received several inquiries from our California readers regarding the impending legislation to go into effect in the new year.  We decided to dedicate most of this weeks’ updates to you guys in Cali as there seems to be a bit of confusion.

2nd amend

CaliforniaYou guys must be as confused as we are….  Bringing in the new year might be slightly more confusing than ever before for gun owners in California.  Starting in 2018, California’s more than 6 million gun owners are going to see new restrictions, but, due to pending court challenges, shifting deadlines and contradictions in the laws, confusion abounds.  But leave up to your pals at PSA to try and clean some of the madness up for you!!!!

  • Assault Weapon Updates – Yes you Cali shooters can still own an assault rifle….but you can’t buy them anymore.  What’s more…you will have to register the ones you already have with the state!  If you already owned such a gun before the new law takes effect, you can keep it, but you were supposed to register it with the California Department of Justice by the end of this year.  However, the registration deadline has been extended to June 30, 2018.
  • Detachable Higher Capacity Magazines – Yes you Cali shooters can own these higher capacity detachable magazines…..for the time being!  Several legal battles are being fought (even as you read this) regarding the previous bans of detachable magazines that held more than 10 rounds.  A few court cases will be heard at the onset of the year and we promise to keep you guys updated!
  • Ammo Updates – Yes, if you live in California you can order ammo online.  The trick is, starting on January 1, you can no-longer ship it to your home.   You will have to ship it to a licensed vendor and pay a fee to get it from them.  Seems like the rest of California is joining the city of Sacramento on this ban.  On another note, you will not have to undergo background checks for ammo purchases until 2019!  Unfortunately, starting January 1, 2018 Californians will not be allowed to import ammo into the state.  Yes that means that you CAN’T purchase ammo in another state and drive it back into California.  If you do such and are detected, you will face criminal charges.  Being based in Georgia, all we can say to that is:  WOW!

NationwideGun ownership not affected by traffic citations…..Rumors abound on this topic, but, despite what you may have read, thousands of Americans will not be denied the right to purchase firearms because they forgot to pay a traffic ticket or to appear in court to fight the charge. “Fix NICS” legislation includes two recently passed bills that are designed to ensure that there are no statutory, regulatory, administrative or procedural impediments to entering all appropriate records into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).  This should correct all previously encountered issues with this system glitch and remove any of these kinds of roadblocks for responsible citizens attempting to purchase firearms.

***  If you are unfamiliar with firearms and/or their accessories, and want to learn more, PSA strongly suggests that you find, enroll, and attend a comprehensive and reputable firearms safety course. Firearms safety is all of OUR responsibility.

We want to thank you for taking out the time to stop by our lane at the shooting range!!  We hope that you enjoyed your stay and hope that you stop back by early and often to catch up on all PSA updates!  We truly hope that we were able to hit the target, and if you ever have any questions please don’t hesitate to shoot them our way!!  We look forward to shooting the breeze with you soon again!!

And as always….remember to watch your six and stay low!!!
