At PSA we cannot imagine a single reason for us to advertise to the viewing public that we are carrying a firearm. Granted, there may be places that concealed carry is the only option, but open-carry is NEVER an option for us. There are several ways that we can inadvertently advertise to the bad-guys that we are carrying, and we will offer you guys a couple of quick tips to avoid these. After all….your defensive carry pistol should be considered as your ace-in-the-hole. You should never want to show this card up front!!
Imagine for a moment that you are in a crowded shopping mall and a couple of unscrupulous characters have taken the mall by storm. As the bad guys enter the store you’re in, they immediately scan the store for threats. They look right over you and immediately begin to send hot lead across the store at a gentleman wearing a Glock 17 in an OWB holster. What made him the instant target? Two words…..Open-carry. If you’re the bad guy and you want to neutralize all threats before plundering wouldn’t you first engage those that are openly known?
Don’t offer free advertisement….. If you saw the guy in Foot Locker that had on a Glock hat, a Glock t-shirt, and his Glock key-chain hanging out of his front pocket, chances are you saw someone that was screaming “I am carrying a firearm!!!” If the purpose of your defensive firearm is the element of surprise to the bad guy, then please guys…..save the free advertisement for the crowds of like minds!!!
Stay correctly clothed my friend…. Concealed carry is one of the largest movements in the firearms industry. From micro pistols, to special holsters, to insane gear… concealed carry is big business!!! If you choose to carry concealed please make sure that your clothing is carry appropriate. At PSA we deem carry appropriate clothing as those items that are easily manipulated if need be and those articles that tend to reduce the visual print of a firearm. Ensure that your gun belt is duty rated, ensure that your holster covers the entire trigger guard, and wear clothes that compliment your carry status. Make sure that it works for you!!
*** If you are unfamiliar with firearms and/or their accessories, and want to learn more, PSA strongly suggests that you find, enroll, and attend a comprehensive and reputable firearms safety course. Firearms safety is all of OUR responsibility.
