From the Vault: Glock 19

Firearms and self-defense instructor Massad Ayoob was once quoted as saying:  “My own idea of a $5,500   .45 auto is a used Volkswagen with a Glock 30 in the glove box…”  Well this post (as long overdue as it is!!!) would certainly please Massad!!!  Having a Glock “From the Vault” is a must from PSA seeing that we are headquartered in Georgia, and we apologize to all the Glock fans out there that it took so long!!!!  So without any further adieu……

Glock Ges.m.b.H. has a storied and successful history.  Founded by Austrian engineer, Gaston Glock in 1983, Glock has gained worldwide notoriety for producing trusted, dependable, and downright accomplished firearms.  Gaston began his affinity with plastics and metals in the late 60’s and that affinity spawned a revolution of the modern pistol that heretofore the world had never before experienced.  The simplicity of the Glock design as well as its simple operating method adds to its reliability.  Glock pistols contain a relatively small number of components, sometimes nearly half as many as the typical handgun, which in turn makes maintenance and repair simpler.

One of PSA’s favorite EDC pistols is the Glock 19.  This little puppy is chambered in 9mm and shoots like a dream.  The Glock 19 is effectively a reduced-size Glock 17, and is affectionately called “compact” by the manufacturer.  The 19 was first produced in 1988, primarily for military and law enforcement.  To preserve the operational reliability of the short recoil system, the mass of the slide stays consistent with its predecessor: the 17.

Our Glock 19 is one special cookie!  We bought it with a custom slide and barrel assembly made of nickle boron.  Using this metal for construction tends to reduce friction from metal on metal parts and actually acts as in a self-lubricating capacity during firing.  The rest of the pistol is standard Glock with standard Glock features.  The 19 fits comfortably in an IWB holster carried at (or about) the 4 o’clock position or even in IWBA carry.  This little guy will eat any kind of ammo you decide to throw it’s way (we’ve put nearly 1500 rounds through it)!!!  All in all this pistol most definitely gets the PSA stamp of approval!!!
