We cannot stress enough the importance of training as it pertains to owning and carrying a firearm. So many shooters that we encounter on a daily basis actually have no understanding of the sheer gravity of their day to day actions. Carrying a firearm for protection of oneself, loved ones, or personal property is nothing to sneeze at! Having a solid understanding of firearms safety should be a paramount concern for all shooters and those of us who carry on a daily basis. During all of the training courses that PSA hosts, our instructors frequently inculcate: Firearms safety is a process and not a state of mind.
As you matriculate through the perpetual academy that PSA calls the “Firearms Safety University,” rest assured that your habits will be formed by consistent training and practice. Furthermore, your actions will be prefaced by the habits you learn by consistent training.
Safety, just as most of our daily activities is a process, as opposed to a state of mind. Think if it like this…….becoming a chef is a process not a state of mind. The vast majority of us think that we are world renowned chef’s. We get in the kitchen, mix some ingredients in a bowl, throw them in the frying pan and voila!!!! At that moment, all of you Hell’s Kitchen winners would have just ousted Bobby Flay!!! The harsh reality of it is that most of us are only top tier chef’s in our mind!!! We have never went through the process to become an actual chef. Becoming safe with firearms is a process just as becoming a 5-star chef is. Many of us think that we are safe, but have we really learned the process of safety? The next time you pick up your firearm, think about that one guys…..
*** If you are unfamiliar with firearms and/or their accessories, and want to learn more, PSA strongly suggests that you find, enroll, and attend a comprehensive and reputable firearms safety course. Firearms safety is all of OUR responsibility.
We want to thank you for taking out the time to stop by our lane at the shooting range!! We hope that you enjoyed your stay and hope that you stop back by early and often to catch up on all PSA updates! We truly hope that we were able to hit the target, and if you ever have any questions please don’t hesitate to shoot them our way!! We look forward to shooting the breeze with you soon again!!
And as always….remember to watch your six and stay low!!!
