From the Gun Vault: Sig P516

Welcome back to all you wacky shooters!!!  Boy-oh-boy do we have a treat for you guys today!!!  Every so often we like to bring to you guys some of the toys that we have in our own personal vault.  Today will be no different!!  As most of you know (or soon will!!!), we at PSA LOVE our Sig’s!  Today we bring to you one of our newest toys!!!  So…..without further adieu….the Sig Sauer P516!

As per usual….we always like to give you guys a quick history lesson on the firearms that we hold so dearly, and this time is no different!!!  The big brother of this AR-Pistol is the full size Sig Sauer 516.  The 516 was produced in the mid 2000’s by designers Robert Hirt and Christopher Sirois, who both then worked for the Swiss Arms AG Corporation.  The Sig Sauer 516 was officially put into service in 2010.  The full-size 516 is currently keeping officers safe all around the world.  The 516 can be seen slung over agencies from the Hong Kong Special Duties Unit, to the Egyptian Rapid Deployment Forces, to the Georgian MIA Special Forces, to the United Kingdom’s Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorist Specialist Firearms Force.  The list doesn’t stop here; the Sig 516 is currently in use by dozens of other agencies both federal and local level world wide.

The little brother….the Sig P516 is the answer Sig gave to those of us who clamored for a pistol version of the world renowned full-sized 516.  The P516 has the full compliments of the full-size big brother but the P516 dons either a 7.5″ or 10″ barrel.  The P516 was unveiled at the SHOT show circa 2014 and was an immediate hit.  The P516 has a 4 position adjustable gas valve, all ambi-EVERYTHING, a proprietary short-stroke gas system, some of the toughest BUIS, and the list goes on!  As opposed to the adjustable butt-stock that comes standard on the 516, the P516 is equipped with the Sig PSB (Pistol Stabilizing Brace), which is designed to wrap around the shooters arm to provide more stable one handed shooting.  The PSB takes the place of the customary butt-stock on normal AR platforms and covers the buffer tube.  The P516 comes standard with a quad-rail for adding all sorts of toys (as you can see from the picture of ours below)!!!  The P516 also has a lower that is as close to mil-spec that you will find (as there are FEW true mil-spec firearms that aren’t for the military).  All in all this puppy barks and bites!!!

This is one of the lone pictures that we have of our P516 (as just like the big brother, we immediately put it into service!!!).  But this picture actually gives you a good look at what we’ve done to it thus far.  On the front of the rig, you can see that we have a 5.56 laser-light combo.  On all of the exposed rails we installed the rail ladders that were supplied with the pistol by Sig, in order to truncate the scarring of hands from the rails during shooting.  We also put on the AFG (by Magpul) to help with handling and driving the rifle.  We installed an Osprey red/green dot sight that perfectly co-witnesses with the BUIS.  Lastly, we installed a Scorpion Grip from ATI.  This little puppy is pretty and functional!!!

***Remember…the safest rifles are those that have an open bolt, empty chamber, and an empty magazine well.  Never load a rifle with a round in the chamber, as this round may “cook off.”  If you are unfamiliar with firearms and want to learn more, PSA strongly suggests that you find, enroll, and attend a comprehensive and reputable firearms safety course. Firearms safety is all of OUR responsibility.

We want to thank you for taking out the time to stop by our lane at the shooting range!!  We hope that you enjoyed your stay and hope that you stop back by early and often to catch up on all PSA updates!  We truly hope that we were able to hit the target, and if you ever have any questions please don’t hesitate to shoot them our way!!  We look forward to shooting the breeze with you soon again!!

And as always….remember to watch your six and stay low!!!
