Every once in a while, we will come across something that we just can’t wait to share with you wacky gun-nuts!! Well…today will be no different! This past weekend we were in the ammo section trying to sure up our stock of ammo, and came across a new and definitely different type of ammo. Liberty Ammunition is a U.S. manufacturer of ammo that was founded shortly after the underhanded and despicable 9/11 attacks. Liberty is a manufacturer that prides itself on producing lead free, low recoil, higher performance ammo for the U.S. Military, Law-Enforcement, and any allies of the protection of freedom. Recently, Liberty released it’s newest product: Civil Defense Ammunition.
At first glance, this ammo looks like it is truly a space age cartridge. When you pick up the round it almost feels as though it is weight-less!! These rounds are so light that in the hand they truly feel like they are just a case…no powder…no bullet!!! At the very minimum they’re striking…until you shoot these little puppies!! At that moment…we can only describe it as having a moment of “shooting zen!!”
Civil-Defense rounds are made from nickel-plated copper with a nickel-plated (brass) cartridge case. Liberty uses nickel in their ammo because this metal effectively reduces fouling and in-turn increases the effective life of the firearm. Liberty uses a proprietary gun powder that creates higher muzzle velocity, higher terminal ballistics, and less felt recoil, all the while reducing the weight of the cartridge. The deep hollow cavity on the nose of the bullet creates a tough mushroom to deal with and also creates smaller wound channels from the petals that are created and break apart when the bullet enters the bad guy! All in all, these little puppies seem to be a great addition to your ammo can!!!
Of course, as soon as we saw them on the shelves….”wrap em’ up!”
Liberty offers these rounds in most all of the popular personal defense calibers that include: .380 / .38spl / 9mm / 10mm / .45ACP / .40 / .357SIG / .45Colt
If you are interested in getting a couple boxes of these puppies for your own personal use, please understand: THEY ARE NOT CHEAP!!! These guys are quite cost prohibitive so target practice with them is impracticable to most of us! With that being said, PSA still suggests that (if you are intent on carrying these as personal defense rounds in your EDC) you go through at least one full magazine to certify that your firearm likes to chew them (like guns make choices in what they eat…it’s a machine…a gun should eat whatever you put in its mouth!!!! but thats another story…). This will ensure that if the time comes (may the good Lord forbid the time ever comes for any of our readers!!), you and your firearm will be ready for the fight.
There are several videos online that you can find (Google, YouTube) that give ballistics tests and other opinions on the Civil Defense Ammo. We will conduct further testing on our own and follow up with you guys for official PSA testing reviews!! For now, for a PD round, these little guys will do just fine for PSA!!!
