If you’ve ever visited a gun shop I’m sure that you’ve seen him.  He has a membership to the local range, he loves to hang out at the gun shop, and he is involved in several different gun clubs.  Yup!!!  You guessed it!  Mr. Know-it-all.  Now….none of us should have a problem with him because we all LOVE guns!!!  But there is just one thing that gets me about this guy… He always has advice to give.  Experienced shooter or novice, Mr. Know-it-all has some piece of brilliant advice to give.  Don’t get me wrong, there are certified firearms aficionados out there who have valuable advice to share.  All PSA wants you to do is to consider the source…..

Understand this….Bad advice is replete throughout the firearms industry.  There are pundits that “suppose” that they know everything about every firearm or firearm accessory that you can muster up enough thought to even think about!  Quite frankly these are the type that PSA recommends you stay away from.  Actually you should probably RUN as far away from these guys as possible!

There are endless pieces of bad firearms advice being given EVERY day!  For us to try and cover them all would surely be an act conducted in futility.  But there are a couple that we MUST cover…some for the seriousness of the falsehood and some simply for the sheer humor that is intertwined!

First things first….Racking the slide on your shotgun, alone, will scare away the bad guy.  For the life of me I cannot understand why this LIE continues to spread around the firearms community!  STOP IT people!!  If this is your defense plan, please ball it up, and throw it in the garbage can!!!  If someone is bold enough to break in your home while you are there, chances are their fear tolerance is through the roof!  What if they are high on Meth?  Cocaine?  Bath salts even?!?!?!?  Simply put, what if they are not afraid of that sound.  If you leave your plan at simply racking the slide you may be in grave danger.  Consider the source people….

Next up is one of my all time favorites.  Possibly because I am a fan of the AR platform, or possibly just because it just plain crazy.  Some of these “range-rats” will tell you that for home defense, the AR is the wrong platform and you need a shotgun because the rounds from an AR will penetrate and pass through drywall, and the pellets from a shotgun will not.  Well I may not be the brightest crayon in the box, but I do know this.  There are some bird shot pellets that will penetrate drywall.  Likewise, it is not hard to see how 000 buckshot pellets could.  For proof, all you have to do is open a new tab in your browser, go you YouTube, and cancel your plans for the rest of the day, because there are tons of videos to prove it to you!!  Seriously guys….consider the source.

I saved the best for last.  One of the most most ridiculous, zaniest, and preposterous pieces of advice is that if you have to shoot an intruder and he/she so happens to fall outside of your home, to drag the body back inside.  Well, I would suggest this ONLY if you want to spend the next 10-15 years doing hard time!!!  Simply by touching that body after it falls will put you in the realm of breaking several laws, disrupting a crime scene, and becoming an inmate!!!  Guys, if you have to shoot an intruder, PSA suggests that you stay put until the authorities get there (with good shot placement the bad guy will too!!!), and be as honest and upfront as possible.  If you decide to follow Mr. Know-it-all’s advice, make sure that he knows where you’re housed so that he can put money on your books!!!  Because you gonna need it!!!  Guys when taking gun advice please consider the source.
